Mumbai : On the occasion of World First Aid Day today, Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital, Mumbai, in collaboration with Finland International School, organised a comprehensive Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid training session for the school’s teachers and staff. The initiative aimed to ensure that educators and school personnel are well-prepared to handle any medical or life-threatening emergency situation on the school’s premises that may occur among children and staff members.

Around 40 staff  attended the workshop. The session was designed to cover a wide spectrum of medical situations ranging from everyday incidents to critical emergencies. Participants were trained in handling minor injuries such as cuts, scrapes, burns, insect stings, sprains, and nosebleeds, as well as major medical conditions including choking, allergic reactions (anaphylaxis), fractures, fainting, stroke, and heart attacks. Demonstrations were also conducted on how to administer CPR, revive an unconscious person, correctly wrap bandages, and immobilise fractures to prevent further damage.

Recognising the importance of mental health, the training also touched upon spotting early warning signs of emotional distress, equipping teachers to respond to both physical and emotional emergencies among students.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zubin Pereira, Facility Director at Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital, said,  “Children spend a significant part of their day in schools, and it is critical for teachers and staff to be trained in first aid and life support. Every minute counts in an emergency, and timely intervention can save lives and prevent complications. This session is not just about imparting knowledge but about empowering educators to act confidently and responsibly when a child or colleague is in distress.”

The initiative highlights Narayana Health SRCC Children’s Hospital’s commitment to promoting community awareness, preventive healthcare, and readiness in emergency situations. By equipping school staff with these essential skills, the hospital and Finland International School have taken a vital step towards ensuring a safer environment for children and the community at large.

Shashank Goenka Managing Director Finland International School – Said “ This workshop will benefit teachers by equipping them with life-saving first aid and BLS skills, boosting their confidence in handling emergencies, and enabling them to recognize early emotional and behavioral red flags in students. These skills not only enhance professional development but also contribute to creating a safer, more supportive school environment—while being equally valuable in everyday life beyond the classroom.”
