Okhamandal/Mithapur : Tata Chemicals Limited successfully hosted the 24th edition of the Shri K S Somashekharan Nair Memorial Open Okhamandal Cyclothon on 9th November in Mithapur, Gujarat. The day brought together hundreds of community members, including Tata Chemicals employees, to celebrate the spirit of community wellbeing and togetherness. The event honoured the legacy of the late Shri K S Somashekharan Nair, fondly remembered as Soman Nair, who served as the estate and security officer at the Mithapur plant from 1984 to 1987.
The cyclothon was organized in the Tata Chemicals Township, featuring two race categories: the 42 km Endurance Race and the 14 km Sprint, drawing enthusiastic participants from across the Okhamandal region. Commenced at 6:15 AM IST, the event witnessed an impressive 266 participants, including 147 Tata Chemicals employees, each showing enthusiasm and commitment to health and wellness. All participants received race essentials, including finisher medals, t-shirts, timing bibs, hydration support and a nutritious breakfast, ensuring every cyclist felt celebrated and cared for.
With 31 women participants, this year recorded the highest number of participants in the cyclothon till date. Bhavesh Sumania clinched the first place, completing the 42 km race in 1 hour 18 minutes and 22 seconds, followed by Jatin Manek and Imtiyaz Raza as the first and second runners-up, respectively.
In employee category, Mr. Jagdishsinh Vadher stood first by completing 42kms in 1 hour 27 minutes and 16 seconds. Nikunj Purohit and Bhavdip Joshi were the first and second runners-up, respectively.
