New Delhi: Flipkart Group, one of India’s leading digital commerce entities, has entered into a partnership with the Meghalaya State Agriculture Marketing Board (MSAMB), under the Samarth Krishi programme, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The collaboration is set to benefit farmers of Meghalaya by creating market linkages and local sourcing opportunities, enabling direct market access for fresh produce, including pineapples, from the state.
The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Hon’ble Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, and Shri Conrad Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
To enable seamless integration into the digital commerce ecosystem, Flipkart Group will support MSAMB with guidance on product quality as per demand trends, quantity planning and onboarding. MSAMB will, in turn, support training and capacity-building efforts for farmer groups under the state’s agriculture department.
Speaking on the partnership, Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group, said, “India’s farmers and agricultural producers represent one of the greatest opportunities for digital commerce to create long-term economic value. As digital commerce reaches deeper into Bharat, we see immense potential to build farm-to-market linkages that strengthen farmer incomes, reduce market friction and connect local produce to consumers across the country. Through Flipkart Samarth Krishi, we are proud to partner with the Government of Meghalaya to help create sustainable market opportunities for the state’s farming communities, while supporting India’s broader agricultural transformation.”
Dr Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Chairman, Meghalaya State Agriculture Marketing Board, said, “Meghalaya’s horticulture and fresh produce has considerable potential, and this partnership with the Flipkart Group is a meaningful step towards realising it. Our goal, together, is to strengthen farmer mobilisation, quality standards and create new access to markets. We believe digital commerce can play an important role in helping Meghalaya’s farmers reach larger national markets, improve income opportunities and strengthen the state’s participation in India’s agricultural value chains.”
The partnership is part of Flipkart Samarth Krishi, a nationwide initiative that has empowered over 10,000 farmers, focused on strengthening linkages between farmers, agricultural producer groups, and national markets through digital commerce.
