In the Agro-based nation as ours, farmers play a significant role.

Known as जगत का तात, farmer’s profession is considered pious and compassionate but unfortunately, irregularities in the climatic change and complete dependability on the forces of nature compels the farmer to remain in peril.

A natural calamity can cause huge damage to their entire year’s immense efforts and in such helpless situations, the farmer is at mercy of money lenders to run their households.

The problem has been prevailing since centuries but sadly, the Governments since time of independence have not provided any foolproof solution.

In the last few years, We have witnessed hue n cry by the opposition to provide loan waiver to farmers.

This could create Vote bank for them but would certainly hit the economic growth of the nation.

Hence, by the end of the first tenure (Modi 0.1) in early 2019, (1st February 2019), Government of Bharat announced the ambitious mission called Pradhan Mantri Kissan Samman Nidhi (PMKSN) to uplift the farmer’s lives.

Many Economists suggest that this type of investment support is better option than the farm loan waivers.

PMKSN implies a- Prime Minister’s Farmer’s Tribute Fund, in which all farmers will get upto Rs 6000/- per year as minimum income support. The scheme would cost 75,000 Crores of Rupee per annum.

The 6000/- would be paid to each eligible farmer directly in their bank account.

This initiative would run under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The scheme was revised in 2019-20 the cover 14.5 Crore beneficiaries.

The eligibility criteria states that farmers having higher economic status shall not be eligible or beneficiary of the said scheme.

With a view to augment the income of the Small and Marginal Farmers (SMFs), the Government has launched a Centrally funded scheme, namely “Pradhan Mantri Kissan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN).

It aims to supplement the financial needs of the SMFs in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields, commensurate with the anticipated farm income at the end of each crop cycle.

The primary objective behind implementing this scheme is saving the SMFs from the clutches of moneylenders and to help them continue their farming activities.

Kanojia family owned a small piece of land in Purvanchal area, near Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Small piece of land and repeatedly failing monsoons made the growing Kanojia family desperate to find an optional occupation. Both the sons migrated to Mumbai, in search of employment. The head of the family, Kanojia along with his wife and both the daughter-in-law and their children were left behind in their village.

With the introduction of the new scheme of PMKSN, Kanojia got his name enrolled. Around the same time, the entire world was struck with COVID19 pandemic. The entire nation was undergoing a lockdown, hence both his sons travelled back to their village.

The Central Government transferred the instalment of PMKSN in their account. Both the sons, Birlaswamy and Deepak started helping their father in farming their land as their ironing work in mumbai had stopped due to lockdown.

The Government‘s much needed aid of 2000/- helped them to buy necessary seeds and pesticides and initiated farming activity with rejuvenated spirit and thus helped the family boost their confidence in bad times.

This scheme has been implemented since 1st December 2018, hence on the 1st December of current year, the seventh instalment would be transferred in the beneficiary farmer’s accounts.

The Central Government transfers  funds in the beneficiary bank account, thrice a year.

The first instalment is transferred between 1st December to 31st March, each year.

The second instalment is transferred between 1st April to 31st July.

The third instalment is transferred between 1st August to 30 th November.

Hon. Prime Minister was nurtured with humble and grounded values. He feels the pulse of the common man of Bharat and has grasped that the most precious emotion among underprivileged is his Self respect.

With PMKSN, Modiji has ensured that the smallest of farmers can live with dignity and does not have to succumb to the clutches of money lenders.
