Indian indices end higher by 1%; Nifty closer to 12,000 mark; Sensex gains over 400 points

Benchmark indices ended in the green for the second consecutive day supported by the financial, metal, and FMCG stocks.


Nifty went up by 0.94% or 110.60 points and closed closer to the 12,000-mark at 11,873.05, while S&P BSE Sensex rose by 1.12% or 448.62 points and closed at 40,431.60. Around 1470 shares advanced, 1150 shares declined while 148 remained unchanged.

ICICI Bank (5.01%), Axis Bank (4.20%), Nestle (4.47%), SBI (4.11%), and GAIL (4.17%), were among the top Nifty gainers. On the other hand, Divis Lab (3.75%), Eicher Motors (3.04%), Hero Moto (2.70%), Cipla (2.36%), and Bajaj Auto (1.93%) were among the top Nifty losers.

Nifty Bank was the top-performing sector followed by Nifty Fin Service, Nifty Metal and FMCG. Nifty Pharma, Nifty Auto and IT sectors ended in the red. BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap went up by 0.58% and 0.43% respectively.

Bank of Maharashtra Ltd

Stocks of Bank of Maharashtra Ltd. surged by 7.17% and traded at Rs.11.95 as the bank’s net profit rose by 13.4% and stood at Rs. 130.1 crore. The Net Interest Income of the bank also increased by 4.4% and stood at Rs. 1120.4 crore.

Avenue Supermarts Ltd.

Stocks of Avenue Supermarts Ltd. went up by 5.79% and closed at Rs. 2,099 after the company reported significant improvements in its earnings. The D-Mart retail chain operator reported a profit of Rs.198.53 crore in the second quarter of the FY21.

DHFL 

Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd.’ (DHFL) stock went up 9.92% and traded at Rs.13.85 as four suitors placed bids for acquiring the company. 

Federal Bank Ltd. 

The bank reported a decline of 26.2% in its September quarter profits while the net asset quality of the bank improved. The bank's asset quality improved to 2.84% while the NPA declined to 0.99% in the second quarter of the FY21. The stocks of the company traded higher by 7.47% at Rs.56.10.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Stocks of Glenmark Pharma declined by 2.53% and traded at Rs.478.50 despite receiving the final approval by the USFDA for Sirolimus Tablets, a generic version of Rapamune.

Spencer’s Retail Limited

Stocks of Spencer’s Retail went up by 3.70% and traded at Rs.75.70 after Radhakishan Damani raised his stake in the company. As per reports, he increased his stake to 2.20% in the quarter ended September’20 from 2.09% in the quarter ended June’20.

Indian Rupee

The Indian rupee traded lower by 6 paise at Rs.73.40 against the U.S. Dollar amid buying seen in the domestic equity markets in today’s session. 

Mixed Global Market Cues

Global Markets ended mixed amid the rising worries over the increasing coronavirus cases worldwide, which dented the investors’ risk appetite. Nasdaq went down by 0.36%, and FTSE 100 declined by 0.22%. On the other hand, FTSE MIB, Nikkei 225, and Hang Seng rose by 0.15%, 1.11% and 0.64% respectively.
