Puducherry : In a major boost to green mobility, the Puducherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) has inducted 25 electric buses from Olectra Greentech Ltd into public service. The fleet was flagged off by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister Shri N. Rangasamy, and Speaker Shri R. Selvam.

Part of the Smart City Mission, the fleet includes 15 non-AC and 10 AC buses, each 9 metres long and capable of running 200 km per charge. The buses promise zero-emission, noise-free travel and will be operated by Evey Trans Pvt. Ltd. under a 12-year Gross Cost Contract.

Olectra MD Mahesh Babu expressed gratitude to the Puducherry government, stating the initiative reflects a shared commitment to sustainable public transport. With over 3,000 electric buses delivered across India, Olectra’s fleet has helped save 135 million litres of diesel and cut 362 million kg of CO₂ emissions. This rollout positions Puducherry among India’s leading cities in adopting clean, modern transit solutions.
