India’s notification of the Greenhouse Gases Emission Intensity Target Rules, 2025, is an important milestone in the country’s pathway to decarbonization. By setting facility-level targets, the government has provided clarity and a framework that balances accountability with market incentives. It highlights how efficiency, reliable data, and independent assurance are becoming key to how businesses compete and grow.
The rules also help Indian industry prepare for international expectations around carbon disclosure and trade. Companies that strengthen transparency in their supply chains and integrate sustainability more closely into procurement will be well positioned to adapt, maintain market access, and build confidence among investors and partners in the years ahead.
