Maharashtra : Marking a breakthrough for India’s clean mobility transition, e-Vidyut, a Pontaq-backed electric mobility startup, has initiated the commercial rollout of its patented retrofitment technology in Maharashtra. The company is among only two in India to hold Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certification, and uniquely, the only one certified for both two-stroke and four-stroke three-wheeler autorickshaws.
On the first day of commercialization in Maharashtra, e-Vidyut witnessed 30 autorickshaw registrations, underscoring the significant latent demand for retrofitment solutions. With over 35 lakh autorickshaws in India aged between 5 to 15 years, this pioneering rollout represents the start of a new wave in India’s three-wheeler clean-tech revolution, delivering financial savings, developmental benefits, and environmental impact for drivers and communities alike.
At the heart of this initiative lies e-Vidyut’s Electromotion RetroKit, an ARAI-certified, RTO-approved solution that allows drivers to convert existing autorickshaws into electric vehicles at a fraction of the cost of purchasing new EVs. The kit offers a certified range of 132 km per charge, reduces daily fuel expenses by up to 70%, and prevents over 1.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per vehicle annually making every driver an active contributor to India’s green mobility transition.
Commenting on this milestone, Mr. Surya Pratap Singh, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of e-Vidyut said, “Our commercial rollout in Maharashtra is just the beginning. The overwhelming response in Maharashtra validates the urgent need for retrofitment in India’s vast three-wheeler ecosystem. With more than 35 lakh vehicles ready for conversion, we are committed to scaling this solution to make mobility sustainable, affordable, and impactful for every auto driver.”
Backed by cross-border VC firm Pontaq, e-Vidyut’s growth journey has been strengthened through strategic guidance, mentorship, and global market access.
Highlighting the importance of such initiatives, Ms. Lopa Mishra, General Partner Pontaq, said, “Supporting e-Vidyut is about shaping systemic change in India’s urban transport sector. Their retrofitment technology addresses real challenges at scale like financial inclusion for drivers, environmental sustainability, and national EV adoption. This launch marks an important first step towards a cleaner, smarter transport ecosystem in India.”
Looking ahead, e-Vidyut plans to expand its commercial operations beyond Maharashtra to six additional states including Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Gujarat, creating a nationwide retrofitting movement and uplifting thousands of livelihoods in the process.
