Shri Yadnesh Dhuri, Chief Executive Officer, Mahanagar Gas Limited (SBU) formally commemorated the milestone on 20 August 2026

Mumbai/Latur: Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), one of India’s leading City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, has achieved a defining milestone by successfully transitioning Ashiv village in its Latur Geographical Area (GA) entirely from LPG to Piped Natural Gas (PNG), making it Maharashtra’s first 100% LPG-free PNG village. The achievement was formally commemorated today at a ceremony in Ashiv, presided over by Shri Yadnesh Dhuri, Chief Executive Officer, Mahanagar Gas Limited (SBU) in the presence of Smt. Komal Walke, Sarpanch- Gram Panchayat-Ashiv, Shri Venkatesh Ravload (District Supply Officer), Shri Ghanshyam Adsul (Tahsildar Ausa), Smt. Priyanka Borkar (Taluka Supply Officer), Shri. Rizwan Patel (Sales Officer BPCL), Adv. Parikshit Abhimanyu Pawar (President – Creative Foundation) other dignitaries, MGL representatives and local residents.

The transition marks one of the most complete village level conversions undertaken by the Company to date, and reflects MGL’s continuing commitment to extending the reach, safety and economic benefits of natural gas beyond urban centres into semi-urban and rural Maharashtra.  For Ashiv’s households, the switch to PNG means access to uninterrupted supply of cooking fuel directly through pipelines connected to their kitchens, eliminating the need to book cylinders and wait for deliveries.

MGL has established PNG connectivity to 1,050 households in the village enabling a large majority of households to transition completely from cylinder-based cooking fuel to PNG.

Speaking during the ceremony, Shri Yadnesh Dhuri, Chief Executive Officer, Mahanagar Gas Limited (SBU) said, “Ashiv becoming Maharashtra’s first LPG-free PNG village is an important milestone for us and is proof that city gas infrastructure can be extended purposefully into rural areas, with the discipline of an urban rollout and the sensitivity a community transition demands. It also provides us with a model that can be replicated across other villages in the Latur GA and our other operating areas.”

“The transition from cylinder-based LPG to piped natural gas provides households with a safer, more convenient and uninterrupted energy supply, delivered directly to their kitchens. As we continue to deepen our presence across Maharashtra and Karnataka, our focus will remain on expanding access to clean and reliable energy and ensuring that the benefits of PNG reach more households and communities”, he added.

MGL acknowledges the support extended by the local administration and authorities and the residents of Ashiv, whose cooperation facilitated the implementation of the PNG network and enabled MGL to extend supply across the village. The initiative also reflects the Government of India’s push towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy transition, including greater adoption of gas-based infrastructure across the country. Supportive government policies and the enabling regulatory framework, which have played an important role in expanding access to PNG and encouraging communities to transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy.

MGL appeals to the residents of Latur to opt for PNG and contribute towards a cleaner, safer and better future, while supporting the nation’s journey towards energy self-reliance.

The 20 August ceremony at Ashiv brought together MGL’s leadership, Gram Panchayat representatives and local residents, marking an important step in the company’s broader rural expansion across its operational areas in Maharashtra.
