The integrated cement plant at Dima Hasao, with 2.5 MTPA cement capacity and a future workforce of over 2,000+, will serve the growing Northeast market

Mumbai: JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., one of India’s leading cement companies, today announced the groundbreaking of Project ‘Kamakshi’, its first footprint in the State of Assam. The groundbreaking ceremony for the integrated cement plant was held today at Village Umrangso in Dima Hasao district, with Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, as the Chief Guest.

Project Kamakshi will be an integrated cement plant with railway sidings, set up at Umrangso in Dima Hasao, Assam. The plant will have a cement capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum, supported by a 1 million tonne clinkerisation unit, and is being developed with a total investment of ₹11,000 crore, including the mining lease. The project is targeted for completion by FY 2029 and will have a future workforce of over 2,000 people, catering primarily to the North East market.

Launched with the blessings of Maa Kamakhya, the project marks the company’s entry into the North East. The new plant is designed to bring reliable, locally produced cement closer to one of the country’s fastest-developing regions.

Smt. Vinita Singhania, Chairperson and Managing Director, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., said, “Project Kamakshi is the start of a long-term relationship with Assam and the wider North East. This is a region that is building fast, and it deserves quality cement made close to home. With this plant, we want to bring scale, jobs, and dependable supply to the region. At JK Lakshmi Cement, we believe that building a stronger India goes beyond infrastructure. It is also about growing together with the communities we serve.”

As an integrated unit with its own railway sidings, the plant will allow efficient movement of material and finished cement, helping the company serve customers across the North East with greater consistency. The project is also expected to create meaningful opportunities for the region and strengthen the local economy.

Project Kamakshi builds on the company’s stated intent to pursue greenfield opportunities in high-growth corridors such as Assam, and it extends JK Lakshmi Cement’s presence beyond its existing Northern, Western and Eastern markets. The company will continue to build in line with its long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2047.
