Breakthrough innovation offers a safer, more sustainable, commercially viable alternative for the engineered surface industry

Transforming high-purity Quartz into the next generation of Engineered stone raw Materials

Gudur, Andhra Pradesh, India: Nemmali Mining Pvt. Ltd ( NMPL )has announced the launch of Zero Crystalline Silica™ Surface Technology, India’s first innovation of its kind, marking a major milestone for the global engineered stone industry. At a time when the global engineered surface industry is rapidly shifting toward safer alternatives due to stricter workplace safety and environmental laws, this breakthrough offers manufacturers a safer and more sustainable alternative to conventional quartz-based engineered surfaces without compromising aesthetics, durability, or material quality.

The innovation addresses one of the industry’s most critical global challenges – exposure to respirable crystalline silica during cutting, polishing, fabrication, and installation. By completely eliminating crystalline silica from product composition, the technology significantly reduces health risks while positioning itself as a viable alternative to conventional quartz materials through a comprehensive upcycling process.

Mrs Keerthy Reddy, Director of NMPL, commented, “Manufacturers across the world are searching for immediate solutions that prioritise worker safety without compromising product performance. Our Zero Crystalline Silica™ technology, derived from 99.9% pure silica, marks a significant milestone toward creating safer industrial workplaces while delivering the premium, high-value surfaces that global markets expect. We believe this breakthrough will fundamentally reshape the future of the engineered surface industry.”

The technology is built on an advanced upcycling process that transforms carefully processed recycled materials into premium engineered surfaces. This approach reduces reliance on natural quartz mining, conserves natural resources, minimises industrial waste, and lowers the overall environmental impact of manufacturing. It also supports circular economy principles by transforming recycled materials into high-value products without compromising quality or design.

NMPL’s innovation has been independently validated through internationally accepted testing standards. Independent X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the absence of crystalline silica, verifying that the developed material consists of silica rather than crystalline silica. In addition, SGS, one of the world’s leading testing, inspection, and certification organizations, independently verified the material’s chemical composition through X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis.

The announcement comes as governments worldwide tighten regulations on crystalline silica exposure. Australia has already implemented a historic ban on engineered stone containing crystalline silica, while regulators in the United States and Europe are introducing stricter workplace safety standards and evaluating further restrictions. With India standing as one of the world’s largest manufacturers and exporters of engineered stone, NMPL’s innovation positions Indian manufacturers to lead the next phase of global industry transformation.

India is one of the world’s largest manufacturers and exporters of engineered stone, supplying premium surfaces to residential, commercial and architectural projects across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. With international markets increasingly demanding safer and regulation-compliant materials, Indian manufacturers have a unique opportunity to lead the next phase of industry innovation.

According to industry estimates from Grand View Research, the global engineered stone market is valued at over USD 25 billion and is expected to witness steady growth over the coming decade, driven by demand from residential, commercial, and hospitality projects as well as increasing preference for durable, low-maintenance, and sustainable surface materials.

NMPL is already a trusted supplier to leading engineered stone manufacturers including Pokarna Engineered Stone, Quartz Kraft LLP, Pacific Industries, Marudhar Rocks International, CMC Pvt. Ltd., Venkata Sai Balaji Surfaces, Paradigm Surfaces, Pristine Quartz Pvt. Ltd., Krishna Sai Exports, Jyothi Exports, Sunex Private Limited, and MQ. These manufacturers export engineered surfaces to projects across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and other global markets.
