India: Rooted in experiential learning and innovation, Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), a leading AACSB-accredited business school in India, successfully inaugurated its Centre of Excellence on AI on August 19, 2026, marking a significant step in strengthening the institute’s focus on artificial intelligence, experiential learning, innovation and technology-driven education.
The inauguration of the AI Centre of Excellence brought together 400+ participants, primarily students and faculty members, under the vision Learn. Build. Deploy. Innovate.
The event was graced by advisory board members Mr. Neeraj Gehani, Global Product Director, Dunnhumby; Mr. Varoon Govil, Executive Director, MSCI Inc.; and Dr. Saumendra Mohanty, Consultant, ValueFirst (a Tanla Company), and highlighted the institute’s continued efforts to foster hands-on learning, experimentation, and the practical application of emerging technologies.
As part of the programme, participants underwent a structured learning programme designed to build a strong foundation in AI and modern development workflows. The programme covered AI Fundamentals, the Generative AI ecosystem, Google AI Studio, Google Antigravity, Google Cloud Credits and resources, and live project development and deployment. Through hands-on activities, interactive learning and project development exercises, participants gained practical exposure to AI tools and technologies and learnt how to take their ideas from concept to working solutions.
Participants explored key problem areas including MedTech, FinTech, EdTech and Open Innovation, identifying real-world challenges where AI and emerging technologies could create meaningful impact. The open-ended format encouraged teams to think creatively, collaborate and develop innovative, scalable solutions.
Emphasising the importance of such experiential learning initiatives, Dr. Prabina Rajib, Director, BIMTECH said, “Ideas are only the beginning of innovation. What matters is the ability to take an idea, test it, build it and create something that can address a real problem. The Centre of Excellence on AI marks an important step in strengthening BIMTECH’s commitment to technology-driven and experiential learning. Our aim is to equip students and the wider academic community with the capabilities to learn, build and innovate in an increasingly AI-driven world.”
Participants turned their ideas into AI-powered applications, automation tools and innovative prototypes designed to address practical challenges. The solutions ranged from personalised stock and mutual fund management to applications focused on personal health and care. These projects demonstrated how AI can move beyond experimentation to enable practical and scalable solutions for challenges faced by individuals, organisations and society.
The event also saw participants showcase the solutions they had developed, demonstrating their learning, creativity, teamwork and technical execution. The winning teams were recognised for their innovation, impact, technical execution and overall quality of their solutions. Rank 1 – Wroom Wroom: Kartik Saxena, Kritika Digari, Kumari Shachi, Bhavna Mittal, Rank 2 – LOSER CORE: Bhavya Rawat, Rank 3 – CARPIEDEM: Sakshi Jaiswal, Ruchi Yadav, Rishita Agarwal, Surabhi Singh, Ranjan Kumar Singh.
The top-performing teams were recognised with cash prizes and other accolades for their innovative solutions. All participating students and participants were also awarded certificates in recognition of their involvement and contribution to the programme.
The inauguration of the Centre of Excellence on AI reinforces BIMTECH’s continued focus on building a future-ready academic community through experiential learning, industry collaborations, workshops, hackathons, research and student-led projects. By creating platforms where emerging technologies can be explored and ideas can be developed into practical solutions, BIMTECH continues to strengthen the connection between classroom learning, innovation and real-world application.
