Mumbai : L’Oréal India today announced the inauguration of its largest Beauty Skilling Centre, developed in strategic partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Operating under L’Oréal’s flagship Beauty for a Better Life skilling programme, the centre represents a transformative investment in India’s skilling ecosystem — empowering women from underserved communities with professional expertise, economic independence, and pathways to sustainable livelihoods.
Spanning 4,267 sq. ft., the flagship facility is fully equipped to train 3,000 individuals annually in professional hairdressing, makeup artistry, and beauty services. Working in collaboration with partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the salon industry, L’Oréal’s Beauty for a Better life programme provides world-class professional training, career guidance, job placement support, and dedicated trainer development.
L’Oréal India Commits to ‘Skill India’ and ‘Make in India’
The newly inaugurated Beauty Skilling Centre is the latest milestone in L’Oréal India’s significant socio-economic contribution over its 31-year history in the country. At the inauguration, L’Oréal India unveiled its first-ever Socio-Economic Impact Study, revealing its deep integration into the Indian economy.
Conducted by Paris-based economic research consultancy Asterès using the Asterès Impact Model (MIA), the study highlights:
- The 1:39.5 Job Multiplier: Every single direct job at L’Oréal India supports 39.5 additional jobs across the wider value chain, actively sustaining 90,500 jobs nationwide spanning logistics, packaging, raw material sourcing, and retail.
- Local Manufacturing Powerhouse: In perfect alignment with the Government of India’s “Make in India” vision, 95% of L’Oréal products sold domestically are manufactured locally at its state-of-the-art facilities in Chakan (Maharashtra) and Baddi (Himachal Pradesh).
- Global Export Hub: L’Oréal’s Indian facilities serve as vital global manufacturing hubs, exporting finished goods to 25 international markets.
- Anchor of the Salon Economy: L’Oréal has been a key driver in building India’s €230 million (INR 2,000+ Crore) professional hairdressing ecosystem, where the company partners with over 54,000 salons nationwide.
Proven Skilling Impact: A 25x Social Return on Investment
Over the last decade, L’Oréal has upskilled 3.3 million hairdressers and supported 42,000 women through its Beauty for a Better Life program. Today, approximately 60% of top stylists in India are women—a testament to L’Oréal’s commitment to diversity and gender equality.
- Significant Social Return: According to an independent PwC Impact Study (2025), L’Oréal’s skilling initiatives deliver an extraordinary 25x Social Return on Investment (SROI).
- Uplifting Household Incomes: Beneficiaries of these programs report an average 44% increase in monthly household income, moving entire families toward sustainable financial independence.
- Broad-Scale Social Inclusion: Beyond economic contributions, L’Oréal has touched the lives of over 1.3 million Indians through its broader social initiatives focused on women’s education, social inclusion, and community empowerment.
