Partnership with the Government of Uttarakhand advances community development through long-term social infrastructure initiatives
Dehradun: Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today announced the successful completion of a series of community development initiatives across education, healthcare, community well-being and livelihoods in Uttarakhand. These interventions are part of a broader Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the state government to drive holistic CSR programmes in Khatima, located in Udham Singh Nagar district, and Haldwani in Nainital district from FY 2025-26 onwards. Collectively, the initiatives are expected to positively impact more than 4 lakh people.
As part of its commitment to strengthening educational outcomes, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has undertaken several infrastructure development initiatives across government schools and anganwadi centres in Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts. Guided by Toyota’s philosophy of “enhancing quality of education through quality infrastructure”, the initiatives aim to improve learning environments and the overall school experience for 13,532 students through the introduction of child-friendly learning materials, quality classroom furniture, upgraded kitchen facilities for hygienic and timely preparation of mid-day meals, and improved sports infrastructure. The enhanced sports facilities are also encouraging greater participation in physical activities and helping students prepare for district and state-level competitions. Aligned with TKM’s “Child to Community” philosophy, these interventions seek to create vibrant and inclusive school ecosystems that foster academic excellence, holistic development and stronger community trust.
To further strengthen learning outcomes, TKM has initiated a project to modernise science laboratories in government schools across Khatima. Community assessments and on-ground observations revealed that several laboratories continue to rely on scientific equipment and models that are over 15 to 20 years old, limiting opportunities for practical learning. To address this gap, TKM will provide modern science equipment, apparatus and models to nine government schools in Khatima, benefiting more than 7,000 students. The initiative is expected to promote experiential learning and improve academic outcomes in science education.
Recognising the importance of accessible healthcare infrastructure, TKM is supporting government health centres in Khatima with essential medical and non-medical equipment. The region has a growing need for maternal and child healthcare services, while existing facilities face infrastructure gaps in managing emergency and maternity care. Under this initiative, TKM will strengthen healthcare infrastructure at the Khatima Sub-District Hospital and Primary Health Centres in Deori and Chakarpur. The intervention is expected to benefit over 3 lakh community members and support the safe and effective management of more than 1,500 maternity cases annually.
To promote community wellness and encourage active lifestyles, TKM has established open gym facilities at three locations and developed a dedicated children’s play area at one location in Khatima. The initiative addresses the shortage of accessible fitness spaces for women and senior citizens, while creating recreational opportunities for children. These facilities are expected to benefit nearly 60,000 community members.
Beyond education and healthcare, TKM’s CSR initiatives in Uttarakhand also focus on strengthening livelihoods through sustainable solutions. The company has supported a quilt-making centre in Gadarpur, Udham Singh Nagar district, through the installation of a solar power system. This is expected to benefit over 120 women associated with local Self-Help Groups by ensuring an uninterrupted and reliable power supply for operating heavy machinery. By reducing dependence on conventional electricity, the initiative is expected to improve productivity, strengthen livelihood opportunities and contribute to environmental sustainability.
A formal handover ceremony was held on 10th July 2026 at Dehradun, Uttarakhand during the CSR dialogue 2026 in the presence of Mr. Pushkar President Singh Dhami, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of Uttarakhand; Mr. Ganesh Joshi, Cabinet Minister, Mr. Khajan Das, MLA , Mr. Umesh Sharma Kau, MLA, Mr. Vishwas Dabar, Vice Chairman, Infrastructure Monitoring Council, Mr. R.
